| fedora core 5's end of life date |

Also appearing on several fedora email lists today:
Several months ago, the Fedora Board (in consultation with Red Hat Engineering) decided to increase the length of time that Fedora releases are supported, in terms of updates.
This decision was retroactively applied to Fedora Core 5, allowing it to remain a fully maintained release for several months longer than it would have under our old policy.
Fedora 7 will be released on Thursday May 24th, 2007.
Fedora Core 5 will reach its End of Life for updates on Friday June 29th, 2007.
In total, Fedora Core 5 will have had a lifespan of 15 months. For the sake of comparison, under the old policy, FC5 would have only had a lifespan of 11 months.
---
Zod insists that Fedora Core 6 receive updates until about one month after the release of Fedora 8.
Fedora 7 will receive updates until about one month after the release of Fedora 9.
And so on. "Fedora X will receive updates until about one month after the release of Fedora X+2." |

Thanks for extending the life of FC5 as far as you did | (Link)

You will never know how useful that decision was. Having an old distro expire part way through development of the next +2 distro meant it was tremendously difficult to stay with FC as it would mean doing two upgrades per year rather than one. It's a pity legacy didn't work out but it just seems like there wasn't a strong enough community to make that side of things work.

Since Fedora Legacy died and Fedora Board didn't change their maintenance policy, we, as many other users using Fedora as a server OS, decided to switch over to CentOS.
This is a real pity, but a server OS upgrade every 1.5 years is just too much.

"Since Fedora Legacy died and Fedora Board didn't change their maintenance polic"
What the heck? Did you even bother reading what you replied to? Fedora Project Board clearly did extend the release as the previous post even tells you.

I did read it. There is no replacement for Fedora Legacy Project, which used to extend maintenance of Fedora distros for several years. Several month extension from Fedora doesn't provide a replacement for Fedora Legacy Project. | |
